Dill, real name Charles Baker Harris, is a boy who visits Maycomb in the summers. He is from Mississippi and he enjoys playing with Scout and Jem when he comes to visit. He often creates lies and is described as really short with snow white hair. Over the first summer in Maycomb, he becomes obsessed with Boo Radley(a man who is thought to be crazy.) A theme that I believe Dill represents is "social prejudice". He sort of assumes that he is above Boo Radley because of the fact that people think he is odd. He even invents a game that involves ridiculing him.
The song Marry Me by Train represents Dill and how he supposedly wants to marry Scout in the future.
An important event that revolves around Dill is when he runs away from home. He hid under Scout's bed and she soon discovers him and finds out what happened. He ran away because his parents weren't paying enough attention to him. Before this, Dill only came to visit in the summer and was perfectly fine with it. Now, he wants to stay in Alabama and doesn't live with his parents. I believe this represents "striving to reach adulthood" because Dill does not want to grow up.
This song represents this event because Dill runs away.
Dill sits with Scout and Jem during the trial. They sneak in and are late, so they sit in the black section of the courtroom, which is on a balcony. While they are up there they see Reverend Sykes sitting nearby. The theme represented is "racial prejudice" because the blacks and whites are separated.
