Atticus Finch is one of the main characters in the story. He is the father of Jem and Scout, and he is a widower. His wife died from a heart attack when his daughter, Scout, was only two years old. He is older than most dad's but he is still a great man. In the beginning of the story, his children see him as week because he likes reading instead of things such as fishing or hunting or anything of that nature. They soon change their minds when he kills a rabid dog with a shotgun. He is a powerful attorney and he defends Tom Robinson, a black man accused of raping a white woman. The theme that he most strongly tied to is "Racial Prejudice". A lot of the town people in Maycomb don't like the fact that he is defending a black man, especially an old lady called Mrs. Dubose.
This song greatly represents Atticus in my opinion. Both in the court room and with his family, he never gives up. He fights for Tom Robinson and he fights for his kids to have a good life.
An event that changes Atticus is when he starts to defend Tom Robinson as his attorney. He becomes more distant from his kids because he has so much work to do and he has to ask Aunt Alexandria to come live with him and help out, and he depends on Cal more. The theme that represents this event is "Racial Prejudice" because he is fighting for a man who is clearly innocent, but is discriminated towards because of the fact that he is black.
This song describes this event because Atticus becomes more preoccupied with work.
